What is vaping and is it safe?

What is vaping and is it safe using vape to quit smoking? Well, it is not as easy as many think.

If you are a smoker for a lot of years and want to quit, e-cigarettes has been the best alternative to finally quit smoking.

People are turning to vaping to replace a smoking habit they want to quit but for some it is more than that.

So, what is vaping and is it safe? Many are asking if it’s the same as smoking cigarette but they are totally different.

Vaping doesn’t have tobacco, no paper and no filter and it doesn’t burn.

The only thing that an actual cigarette and vape kit have in common is that they let the user inhale nicotine.

However, in the vaping community, they are slowly dropping the use of term “e-cigarette” and calling it vaporizer

Some call it vaping products or simply calling it “vape”.

Vaping simulates smoking. In addition, battery-powered vape devices create an aerosol that looks like water vapor but may or may not contain nicotine.

There are many studies and professionals have stated really good points and different facts about it.

Misinformation in vaping is confusing for people wanting to quit smoking.

Vaping is estimated to be 95% better for your health than smoking.

In short as many people are using vape to quit smoking it means you’re more likely to succeed in cutting down or quitting, which is the biggest benefit of all.

Today, there are arguably just as many traditional tobacco cigarette smokers as there are vape users.

So, it’s fairly amazing to learn how this new alternative became so popular and effective to most people trying to be clean in terms of smoking cigarettes.

Terminologies around vaping

After learning what is vaping and knowing that it’s safe, it is more exciting to learn about the terminologies in the vaping world.

You don’t want to shop online and be overwhelmed with a lot of information and terminologies you find.

I have gathered the most common terms vapers used in the community.

Here are some of the technical terms down to basic explanation you would possibly encounter as you start your tobacco-free journey.

AIRFLOW CONTROL VALVE

Airflow control valve allows you to adjust the amount of air that is drawn into it while taking a hit.

APV (Advanced Personal Vaporizer)

It is an e-cigarette that has variety of options not available on standard e-cigarette batteries.

Also, has removable batteries that are much higher in mAh that conventional e-cigarettes.

ATOMIZER

The heating element in the e-cigarette that turns vape juice into vapor.

In addition, atomizer are designed to create huge amount of vapor and some are designed for enhanced flavor while others are made for deeper “throat hit”.

Simple guide in choosing your preferred atomizer

If you want larger clouds then you must choose or try low-resistance atomizer. On the other hand, if you want profound “throat hit” then you should try high-resistance atomizer.

Take note:
– Not all atomizer would fit every battery.

ATOMIZER HEAD

It is referred as the “atomizer coil” and it is the part of your vape that directly contacts to the battery on one side and vape juice on the other side.

AUTOMATIC BATTERY

An automatic battery does not require the user to manually press a button in order to activate the vaping kit.

BEAUTY RING (Thread Cover)

Beauty ring is a small circular metal piece that is needed to fill in the gap between the battery and the clearomizer.

BOTTOM COIL ATOMIZER

A bottom coil atomizer is one where the atomizer head sits on the bottom of the tank. When in use, the e-liquid is then slowly absorbed and vaporized.

BOTTOM DUAL-COIL ATOMIZER (BDC)

It has two atomizer coils rather than one.

BOX MOD

Box mods are e-cigarettes in the shape of a box with larger batteries and usually adjustable settings.

It has removable batteries why its heavier than vape pens and pod systems.

This mods are all about power and customization.

It is flexible to automatically control temperature levels as well as vapor production.

BUILDING

It’s the act of putting together your own atomizer coil using an RDA or RBA

BUILDER

A person who engages in the act of building his/her own atomizer coils using an RDA or RBA.

CARTOMIZER

A cartomizer is a vaping device that attaches to the end of a battery, they are also commonly referred to as cigalikes or just e-cigarettes.

CLEAROMIZER

It is almost similar to cartomizer but clearomizers do not contain any polyfill material in them.

CLOUD CHASING

It is the act of striving to achieve the largest vapor clouds possible.

People engaged in cloud chasing are called “could chasers”. Obviously, people are not only using vape to quit smoking but also enjoying the pleasure of huge clouds.

COILER

A coiler, or coil jig, is a device that helps build atomizer coils.

CONSTANT VOLTAGE

Unlike variable voltage batteries, voltage output for constant voltage batteries are not modifiable.

DRIP TIPS

Drip tips are the mouthpiece of an electronic cigarette that fits into the top of a cartomizer or clearomizer.

The drip tip is an alternative to the more common e-cigarette cartridge or cartomizer. It’s essentially a reusable hollow tube that screws on directly to the atomizer, allowing the user to drip e-liquid on to it.

And this not only eliminates the need for cartridges, but also allows for a a much more flavorful vaping experience.

DRIPPER

A person who vapes using Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers. This word, “dripper,” refers to the fact that RDAs require the user to constantly drip e-liquid into the device.

DUAL COIL ATOMIZER

Dual Coil configuration works exactly the same way as a Single Coil configuration, the only difference is that it has two coils instead of one.

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE

It’s the original design that looks like a cigarette.

Electronic cigarette was considered to be the start of vaping which was initially intended for one-time use.

Overtime, rechargeable e-cigs became more popular and cost-effecient.

E-LIQUID/E-JUICE

Vape juice flavor is an essential part of the vaping experience. The vapor produced in an electronic cigarette comes from a nicotine-base liquid referred to as e-liquid or e-juice.

GLASSOMIZER

A Glassomizer is essentially the same as a Clearomizer (see “Clearomizer” above), however, rather than the tank that hold the e-liquid being made of plastic, it is made of Pyrex glass instead.

HIGH-RESISTANCE ATOMIZER

A high resistance atomizer essentially means that the atomizer is drawing less power from the battery. In other words, the higher the resistance, the lower the voltage.

High resistance atomizers are used with batteries that produce much higher voltages than standard electronic cigarette batteries.

LOW-RESISTANCE ATOMIZER

A low resistance atomizer essentially means that the atomizer is drawing more power from the battery. In other words, the lower the resistance, the higher the voltage.

As e-liquid is vaporized more powerfully, it produces a larger and thicker vapor, as well as a more potent flavor.

mAh

This is a unit of measurement for electronic devices, such as electronic cigarette batteries. mAh stands for milliampere-hour.

MANUAL BATTERY

A manual electronic cigarette battery is one that requires the user to manually press a button in order to activate the electronic cigarette device.

MOD

Vape mods are larger devices than e-cigarettes, and are known for their high vapor production.

Vape Mods are actually modified form of Vape pen because they are bigger, heavier and include certain advanced features.

Mods modify the vaping experience because vape mods produce more vapor than vape pen which improves your throat hit and increases the flavor.

Also, vaping mods are highly portable and consistent for fulfilling your vaping needs.

OHMZ READER

Advanced Personal Vaporizers (APVs) often have a feature called an ohms reader.

The ohms reader essentially identifies the resistance level of the atomizer that is being used.

Some APVs have the ability to automatically adjust the output voltage of the device to work optimally with the atomizer used.

ORGANIC COTTON

Cotton is used for absorbing material within atomizer coils and are free of impurities, such as bleach. Most high-quality organic cotton is from Japan.

PASSTHROUGH HEAD

Some electronic cigarettes are equipped with batteries that allow the user to use the electronic cigarettes while the battery is being charged.

These batteries are called passthrough batteries.

PG

PG stand for Propylene Glycol, one of the primary ingredients used in e-liquid.

REBUILDABLE ATOMIZER

It is a universal term used for atomizer units containing a deck upon which coils and wicks (also known as ‘builds’) are mounted.

The word RBA is the property of physically wrapping the coil, fixing it to the system and to allow for smooth vapor production.

REPLACEABLE ATOMIZER HEADS

Clearomizers that come with replaceable atomizer heads allow for the head itself to be replaced rather than needing to discard the entire unit and purchase a new one.

RESISTANCE

The ohms resistance of an atomizer coil.

SINGLE-COIL ATOMIZER

These are atomizers that only possess one internal heating element (coil).

STANDARD-RESISTANCE ATOMIZER

A standard resistance atomizer is one that uses a median level of power from the battery.

Standard resistance batteries produce a nice vapor and throat hit, without drawing on too much of the battery’s power in the process.

Also, standard-resistance batteries produce less vapor than low-resistance atomizers but more than high-resistance atomizers.

SUB-OHM VAPING

Those who use atomizer coils that are below 1.0 ohms engage in what is known as sub-ohm vaping.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Temperature control devices can regulate and limit the temperature of atomizer coil wires.

THREAD

The thread of an electronic cigarette refers to the threading of the battery that matches the threading of the corresponding cartomizer/clearomizer.

THROAT HIT

The term “throat hit” is used to describe the sensation the user feels in his/her throat when taking a hit of the electronic cigarette.

The sensation closely resembles that of smoking a conventional tobacco cigarette.

VAPING

Vaping is the act of using an electronic cigarette.

VAPE CLOUD

A vape cloud is the vapor that is produced after inhaling then exhaling from an electronic cigarette device. Vape cloud often refers to the amount of vapor produced while using an e-cig.

VAPER

A vaper is one who uses electronic cigarettes similarly the one enjoying the benefits of vaping.

VAPOR

Electronic cigarettes use a liquid called e-liquid or e-juice. When it comes in contact with the atomizer, it is rapidly heated and converted to vapor.

VARIABLE VOLTAGE BATTERY

Batteries produce different levels of voltage – from 3.0V – 5.0V .

Standard batteries emit a specific constant voltage. Variable voltage batteries allows you to alter the voltage of the battery depending on the user’s preference as well as the type of cartomizer/ clearomizer being used.

VARIABLE WATTAGE BATTERY

A variable wattage battery device has a battery output that can be adjusted by wattage.

Depending on the device, the wattage can be adjusted from 0.5W increments to 1.0W increments.

VG

VG stand for Vegetable Glycerin, one of the primary ingredients in e-liquid.

WICK

Wick is a string-like filament used to absorb e-liquid.

It is fed to the atomizer coil to evaporate.

Fun about vaping

Undeniably, people who are using vape to quit smoking are more satisfied. Vaping is more enjoyable and pleasurable because vapers can choose the best vaping e-liquid for themselves. Unlike real tobacco products, vaping use e-juices with different flavours that are safe, and aromatic.
