You decide to choose to lead, it’s your personal choice. No-one is forcing you.
Leadership comes with responsibility. There is great responsibility in leading others and holding them accountable. There is also personal accountability. You have to be a good leader that people want to follow because if you are not a great leader people will pick someone else to follow. So why would you choose to lead?
One of the biggest reasons people choose to lead is so they can create change in their lives. They have dreams and goals that they want to achieve. So, when they choose to become a leader they are aligning their actions with their dreams and their goals.
They are aligning their behavior and their actions with what they want to accomplish in their life. So what are some of the characteristics of a good leader?
Great leaders exhibit three great leadership qualities: courage, integrity and trustworthiness. Have you ever seen a movie where a famous leader only does one thing in his life? That person is a great leader!
Courage is having the courage to act on what you believe in. Integrity is being truthful without fear of getting caught. Lastly, trustworthiness is following the rules, abiding by them and having the willingness to extend to others your personal beliefs, opinions and faith.
If you are willing to make a personal development plan and dedicate yourself to living according to it, you will develop yourself into a leader. You will become a strong, confident and capable leader.
As you begin to implement your leadership skills and become an effective leader, you will realize the impact it has had on your life. You will see how your life has changed for the better. You will begin to experience things you never thought was possible.
How do you know if you are a leader or not? What are the signs that you have the ability to lead?
You may find yourself leading in ways you never thought possible. Perhaps you have found something greater than what you ever dreamed of. Most people want to change their lives for something greater.
Leadership can be a natural talent that comes from within but it can be learned. It takes courage to put your vision ahead of all else. Leadership requires integrity, which is a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong. Leadership requires the ability to trust, so people can see the vision you have for them and be open to following it.
Leadership requires the ability to communicate clearly and efficiently about what it is you are trying to achieve, where you are going and how to get there.
Have you ever noticed that some great leaders lack the ability to be humble? They are not humble because they are timid or afraid of their weakness; rather, they are humble because they know their real strength lies in their vision and their humility makes them unique and special.
I challenge you to step into your role as a leader and see how your actions and your leadership affect those around you. The results are quite positive. You will discover that you have been given permission to choose to lead by choosing to humble yourself before becoming a leader.
Another trait that is common among good leaders is an ability to delegate responsibility. This is a powerful skill because if a member of your team doesn’t understand the direction you are taking then they are not effective.
If you don’t fully utilize the skills of others then you are likely to create a problem instead of solving it. People are much more likely to follow someone with the ability to delegate than one who is not effective at doing so.
Good leaders also realize that imitation is the best form of flattery. We live in a world where everyone wants to be perceived as an expert. The more you educate yourself the better you will look to other experts to help lead your team and to help direct your own personal career path.
Learning how to delegate responsibilities makes you a valuable asset to your organization. As an employee you will learn that you can move up the corporate ladder faster by learning from the best leaders and applying their success in your role.
When you choose to lead you have many benefits. You get the opportunity to make a difference in the world. You have an opportunity to shape your own destiny. Most importantly, you have an opportunity to motivate and to inspire people to do great things.
